Rukiya Colvin is a Detroit-based freelance writer and community organizer. She was Planet Detroit's 2021 Environmental Journalism Fellow. A lifelong east side resident of Detroit, Colvin has a deep-rooted passion for creating equity in her community. She’s finishing up a master’s degree at Wayne State University in urban planning with a concentration on housing and community development. When she’s not working, you can find her connecting with other community members, somewhere people watching, hanging with her son, or in the backyard gardening.
