I’m a freelance journalist who recently moved from Austin, Texas to Richmond, Virginia. I write mostly about mobility, immigration, and overlooked histories. I’m also comfortable with moderating panels, taking photos, speaking on podcasts, or running newsletters (including my own Rail Revolution about high-speed rail in the US). I’m a contributor at Grist. My work has appeared in The Guardian, Vox, Slate, Bloomberg CityLab, Texas Monthly, and more.

My article on using an autonomous vehicle to get around Austin for a week won a 2025 ASJA Article Award. My stories about an Argentine anarchist’s prison escape and a Texas high school’s mascots were featured in The Sunday Long Read.

I also co-authored the book A Border Son and am working on an oral history book project on Latinos at the University of Texas at Austin.

When I’m not doing journalism, I’m probably planning a trip, searching for a new Spanish language TV show, or shooting hoops (go wolves).
