A 7.4 magnitude earthquake rocked Cali, Quibdo, Pereira, and numerous other cities and towns in Colombia on Monday, according to the Associated Press.
Around 1,600 buildings have been reported damaged or collapsed, and over 3,000 people are still missing as of Tuesday morning. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella said the death toll is now 181, with 2,595 people hurt.
Search and rescue efforts continue as humanitarian relief organizations descend on the country.
The earthquake’s epicenter was in the northwestern department of Chocó, but the tremor was felt strongly about 150 miles away in the capital city Bogotá, CNN reported. Officials say it’s the strongest earthquake recorded in Colombia in the last decade.
Fundraising platform GoFundMe has just created a hub page to help people affected by the earthquake.
The hub contains verified fundraisers for locals who have created their own GoFundMe pages, as well as nonprofit organizations that are responding in the area. Currently, the nonprofits listed for their support in the area include All Hands & Hearts, Food For The Poor, and Americares.
The hub provides one simple page for people who want to make a difference to find fundraisers to support.
On the hub, the GoFundMe page reads, “As search and rescue efforts continue, communities across the region are beginning the long road to recovery. Find where help is needed. Support for verified relief fundraisers and nonprofits will help those affected continue their recovery. Our Trust & Safety team will continue to update this page with more fundraisers as they are verified.”
According to GoFundMe, every fundraiser displayed on GoFundMe hub pages is verified by the platform’s “Trust & Safety experts.”
Donations on GoFundMe are protected by the “GoFundMe Giving Guarantee” — which offers a full refund if something isn’t right. On rare occasions when a GoFundMe fundraiser is found to be fraudulent, misused, or otherwise violates policies, the platform will give donors their money back, no matter where they donated from, for a full year after donating.
