Taylor Swift donates $1M to Feeding America to help hungry families during the holidays

Tuesday morning — just two days before Christmas, and upon the release of the final episodes of Taylor Swift’s “The End of an Era” docuseries — Feeding America took to social media to announce a generous donation from the superstar.

“We are incredibly grateful for Taylor Swift’s $1 million donation to Feeding America,” Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot said in a statement.

“This holiday season, her continued support is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we unite to end hunger.”

Feeding America is a nationwide nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger. It’s part of a network of over 200 food banks and 60,000 meal programs that help U.S. residents access food without judgment.

Its work has been especially prominent in recent months, as federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Benefits funding remains precarious for millions of Americans.

In fact, some of the pop star’s most dedicated fans organized their own fundraisers for Feeding America earlier this year, when, during the federal government shutdown, the Trump administration withheld monthly funds to the estimated 42 million Americans who rely on SNAP

Swifties for Hope, a fan account on social media site X, shared an announcement on October 31, encouraging followers to make donations of $13 (Swift’s favorite number) to Feeding America.

“We protect the family,” the announcement read, referencing lyrics in Swift’s song, “Father Figure.”

“Swifties for Hope is fundraising for Feeding America to help support food banks nationwide.”

While SNAP benefits have become more accessible following the government shutdown’s end, 2026 will bring stricter rules on what can be purchased with food stamps, as well as funding cuts that threaten operating costs for states nationwide.

Before Swift or her fans made their donations this quarter, support for the organization was still high. Earlier this December, the organization topped Forbes’ annual list of the Top 100 Charities for the fourth consecutive year.

“This recognition also underscores a sobering reality that so many resources are still required to help meet the nutritional needs of nearly 50 million people who, in the last year, turned to the Feeding America network of food banks, statewide food bank associations, food pantries and meal programs serving communities across the entire country,” a press release for the organization said.

“Since the pandemic, the number of people facing hunger has continued to rise. Millions of hardworking families are forced to make impossible choices among food, housing, health care, and other essentials. These are avoidable choices that no one should have to face.”

Swift has also donated to Feeding America and other local food banks numerous times throughout her record-shattering Eras Tour, and in the wake of natural disasters like Hurricanes Helene and Milton in the fall of 2024.

This latest installment of charitable giving, according to Babineaux-Fontenot, represents something even larger than Swift and her fanbase.

“When we join together alongside people facing hunger, we can make sure families have a full table this holiday season and beyond,” she concluded in her recent statement.

In the meantime, the organization will continue to support the nationwide efforts to eradicate hunger, while advocating for policies that improve food security for everyone.

“We know better solutions exist,” Feeding America shared in a statement following the Forbes Top 100 Charities recognition.

“While we must continue to address the immediate needs of people facing hunger, it is imperative that more people have clear pathways to self-sufficiency, supported by policies and systems that work for them.”
