Screenshots of Three Online Consignment Shops Websites: Neutral Ground, Mercari & Stillwhite

At first glance, consignment and thrift shops are one and the same. However, these two secondhand retail experiences cater to slightly different preferences and needs (here’s a good breakdown).

As the resell market grows in popularity, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing even more opportunities for people to easily (and sustainably) give their unwanted things a second home.

It’s never been easier to shop and sell secondhand pieces (we love celebrating this type of good news — if you couldn’t already tell)!

I’ve gathered some of the best online consignment shops out there, hoping that it brings you closer to finding your go-to secondhand shop and discovering the joy of participating in the circular economy!

Elevate Your Style with Online Consignment Shops: Our Top Picks

Poshmark

A Screenshot of Poshmark Website

Poshmark, with over 80 million registered users, is a leading social e-commerce platform for buying and selling clothes, accessories, and household goods. This user-friendly platform not only makes the consignment process really easy to navigate, but it also helps folks create compelling listings and manage orders, shipping, and customer communication. (It’s one of my go-to resell platforms!)

Its emphasis on curated recommendations and personalized shopping experiences benefits consignors by aligning their inventory with relevant categories, brands, and styles (looking to sell or buy an outfit for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour? They’ve got you covered). This targeted exposure increases the odds of connecting with the right audience and selling your pieces quickly!

A reason why Poshmark is one of my go-to secondhand marketplaces is because of its community of sellers who share tips, advice, and success stories. (I can’t tell you how encouraging some of these resellers were to me while I was first navigating the resale landscape!)

Consignors can request a Clean Out Kit, which includes a prepaid shipping bag, to easily send their items to thredUp for inspection. The platform handles the entire process, from sorting and pricing to photographing and listing the items for sale. This is the perfect option for consignors seeking a quick and effortless way to rehome their clothes.

Stillwhite

Stillwhite is specifically dedicated to those seeking to consign their wedding dresses. Since wedding dresses are traditionally a single-use product, Stillwhite is looking to change that by offering an online marketplace for buyers and sellers to give their beautiful dresses a second (or third, or fourth!) life.

Sellers simply list their wedding dresses by providing details and photos, while shoppers filter through designers, sizes, and styles. This niche focus attracts a targeted audience of brides-to-be who are actively searching for affordable and sustainable wedding gown options.

Mercari

Mercari, like Poshmark and Depop, makes it really easy for people to buy and sell items online (in my opinion, one of the most straightforward platforms out there). With millions of buyers actively on the hunt for secondhand goods, consignors have more visibility and access to a wide audience of potential customers.

Where Mercari differs from similar marketplaces is in its Mercari Local feature — a contactless way of buying and selling products under 50 pounds that are local to you. This platform tries to take away the sketchiness that tends to be associated with local marketplace meetups and instead offers scheduled pickups and door deliveries by its trusted local partners.
